SUGGESTED ITINERARY TO VISIT PISA BY BIKE:
You could start your bike tour at Piazza dei Miracoli which is UNESCO World Heritage, here you'll find the Leaning Tower, the Duomo, the Baptistery, and the Campo Santo. You might want to get off of your bike, so you can have a good look at the view and of course to take some nice pictures! Then through the riversides you can see the large number of palaces all in the Pisan stile, some of these palaces belonged to the Medici family like the Palazzo Medici built in the thirteenth century and purchased by the Medici in 1446, stayed there often Lorenzo de 'Medici. Another one is The Royal Palace, built in 1583 by Bernardo Buontalenti that was the Medici court. You may continue your path going from Piazza dei Cavalieri where stands the Palace of the Caravan designed by Giorgio Vasari (ncluding the complex decoration of the facade and today it houses the Scuola Normale Superiore) to the gorgeous Church of Santa Maria della Spina which is one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in Europe, built in 1230. Then you can go to Piazza Martiri della Libertà, where stands the Church of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria, built in 1300. Continuing along Via S. Frediano you'll find Borgo Stretto, a fourteenth-century road and always the shopping street of the city, which is the ideal place for go shopping, also here you can see the church of S. Michele in Borgo, built in 1016. Then continue towards the Ponte di Mezzo from where you can admire the Palazzo Comunale (built in the fourteenth century) and the Loggia dei Banchi and of course enjoy a beautiful view.
